Powerzinc and Zhejiang University announced
an agreement to collaborate in the development of Electric
cars in China using Powerzinc's proprietary zinc air fuel
cell technology.
Under
the agreement, the parties will work together to retrofit
EV-1, an all-Electric vehicle originally provided by
University of Hawaii. The new, zinc air fuel cell powered
EV-1 is scheduled for field testing and evaluation in
late August 2002. The agreement also laid out a goal
to secure a bid in China's 10th Five-year Plan's 863 Electric
vehicle project.
Zhejiang
University's College of Electrical Engineering and its
National
Research Center for Applied Power Electronic Technology
(NRC-APE) is the first school that offers Power Electronic
studies in China. It has been granted as a top tier
study and laboratory by the State Education Commission.
Approved by the State Planning Commission, NRC-APE has
also been a nationally ranked power electronics applied
technology engineering laboratory. Zhejiang University
is the first school in China to develop Electric vehicles.
They are one of the key participants in the State Science
& Technology Commission (SSTC)'s 85EV project as
well as the 95EV project of the China's 863 Program.
